The following 64 work-related Values / Characteristics are grouped into 10 categories. Read the description carefully, and then check the column that best describes you.

Limit the number of "Highly Valued" to a dozen or so if possible, and make a point to distinguish between "Rarely valued" and "Not valued."

Category 1: Structure and Pace

Fast Pace — Working at a rapid pace or meeting tight deadlines
Tranquility — Working at a leisurely pace
Pressure — Working in environments where there is time pressure, no room for error, or demanding interpersonal relationships
Task/Schedule Autonomy — Freedom to determine tasks, priorities, and organize work schedule accordingly
Structured Tasks — Tasks and priorities are clearly defined and/or predetermined
Time Autonomy — Freedom to structure work time (hours and/or days) as you desire
Structured Time — Work schedule and hours are clearly defined
Variety/Change — Frequent change in tasks, settings, or location
Repetition — Work involving repetitive or similar tasks
Predictability — Predictable tasks, schedule, or outcome
Precision — Working with very precise or exacting standards and careful attention to detail
Adventure — Often taking risks in your work
Safety — Work not involving risk of injury
Excitement — Work entailing a high degree of stimulation

Authority — Directing, determining, or controlling the actions of other people, directly or indirectly
Decision Making — Making decisions with significant outcomes at stake
Influence — Persuading, convincing, or advising others without direct authority
Supervision — Being directly responsible for the work or performance of others

Category 3: Income

High earnings — Working in an occupation where earnings are high compared to the average income
Performance/Incentive based — Working in an environment where your earnings are tied directly to your performance or results
Stability — Earnings are predictable and unlikely to decrease or increase significantly
Profit — Situations where large profit gains are possible through incentives, commission, stock options, ownership, public offerings, etc.
Benefits — Substantial benefits or privileges, generous medical or retirement plans, expense accounts, company car, free merchandise or services such as travel, etc.
Security — Relatively high likelihood of keeping job
Regular Raises — Occupations with steady and regular raises with satisfactory performance

Category 4: Accomplishment

Expertise — Working in a position where you are regarded as an expert or an authority in your field
Competence/Proficiency — Working in roles where you are effective and can demonstrate proficiency
Recognition — Working in occupations considered important by others; receiving credit or positive feedback
Status — Working in roles with prestige or status based upon type of role or responsibility
Advancement — Being able to advance in skills, authority, or income
Make a difference — Making a contribution to society; making the world a better place
Competition — Regularly competing with others

Physical Demand — Working in occupations requiring physical strength, ability, or speed
Daily challenge — Having daily challenges to meet and overcome
Routine — Predictable daily routine without demanding challenges
Problem solving — Regularly troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve difficult problems or answer complex questions

Professional Dress — Wearing more formal professional dress
Casual Dress — Wearing casual comfortable clothes
Aesthetics — Working in an aesthetically pleasing environment
